pictures from saguaro national park
tucson, arizona

Last year my friend Carl came to visit me here in Sacramento with his daughter, Cory (or Kyle, I still don't have that straight yet - we'll just call her "Cory"). We had a great time here. I was a little worried about whether I'd recognize Carl having not seen him in some 25 years or so. Then it occured to me as I was on my way to the airport to pick them up to look for his dad. It worked perfectly. The funniest part is I didn't need to worry about it at all - Cory's first words to me were, "I know, I look just like my mom." I guess maybe I was staring - it's truly uncanny.

Anyway, this year, on the occasion of Carl's 50th birtday and his dad's 75th, I decided to go to Tucson to be with them and the rest of Carl's family. Besides, it was my turn, which Carl did not fail to point out to me. I saw many, many people whom I'd not been with since I was in my teens. What struck me most of all is how little people's basic personalities had changed over time. I had an AWESOME time with them - it felt just like being at one of my own family reunions.

Carl and Cory took me out for a couple of walks in the desert while I was there - here are a few pictures...

This is my favorite picture from the walk we took that day. The park actually has 2 sections, one to the west of Tucson and the other to the east. This picture was taken from the eastern section - you can see the roads leading into the city and then the mountains to the west of town.
