pictures from lake natoma
folsom/sacramento, california

Lake Natoma is a great place to paddle. There's a speed limit of 5 m.p.h. - no dunken ski boat operators. California State University Sacramento has a marvelous facility for their rowing team and there are regular competitions here.

Though the wind came up later in the day, at the time I took this picture it was very quiet on the lake. There are several little islands at different places along the shore.
You can see the level of the lake was low on this day. The level varies greatly as this lake is a 'control reservoir' for Folsom Lake to the east. This bed of river rock doesn't occur naturally - these are 'tailings' left over from gold mining in the 1800's.

One of the most enjoyable things about paddling at Natoma is all the birds one can see there. Besides the geese in these pictures I've seen heron, egrets, and several species of grebes, ducks and sandpipers.
